Hi George
It has been nearly a year since I have done this, but I
think I can remember it well enough to get you started.
First of all, do not fall into the pit I did. The only type
of cable which is going to work is one which is specifically
called a
File Transfer Cable
The better choice will be a parallel type. I got mine from
CompUSA for about $10
This was my third cable, the first two being "The catalogue
shows it has 25 pin female on both ends" and the second from
the "You got questions, We got answers."(99% wrong ones).
Next, you must have direct cable connection installed on
both systems. This is part of Windows 95, so if it is not
already installed get out the old CD and install.
If everything is ok to this point, with both systems powered
off, install the cable.
Now powerup on both ends.
I found this method worked the best without getting timeout
problems.
Start direct cable connection on one system and then the
other. Now you can start setting the wizards on each
system. On the system you wish to copy files from select
"host", tab to next and press enter and move over to the
system you wish to copy the files to and select "guest" and
tab to next and press enter. By now I am sure you follow
what I am getting at. The idea is to get setup on both
systems at the same time, otherwise if you tell one system
finish and then go to the other the connection attempt will
time out before you are ready on the second system.
Now here is where my memory gets fuzzy, it is on selecting
the drive on host to share. But, I think I did this through
My Computer on the desktop. Umm, I think it was on the file
menu I found an option for sharing in which I had to give my
C drive a name which I called OldC.
At any rate, once you have both systems connected and the
drive on the host machine named and setup for sharing you
can see it from Windows Explorer. I used this method to
move about 500 megs of data by navigating through the tree
on OldC, using Ctrl+C to copy a folder and then navigating
back to my C on the guest system
and Ctrl+V to paste the folder where I wanted it. A message
box will appear to give you the progress. It took the
better part of 4.5 hours for all the data to be moved.

before. You may even take Interlink and Interserv if
possible, I have a
cable that fits right in the LPT ports of either machine.
