Please keep the discussion on the List as far as it ielates to JAWS because
I hope very soon to get round to using our new Braille Lite 40 and will
certainly be looking for tips and tricks!

Thanks.

Hello all,

I have just obtained a Braille Window, and I'm hoping to get some tips on
working efficiently with Braille and JFW. I've been using the computer with
no speech for about a week. I can get around pretty well, but I'm still
slow when using Braille only. The JFW support for the Braille Window is
impressive, and using Braille has revolutionized the way I think about the
computer. The Braille Window is an extraordenary tool for editing; speech
just can't give you the information on screen layouts that Braille does.
However, it seems like the Braille display doesn't always track the active
cursor correctly. This manifests its self mostly in list views such as in
Outlook Express and windows. When I'm in these list views, I use line mode.
I set the active cursor to move with the Braille cursor and the active
cursor to move the Braille cursor. Sometimes in the list view as I move
down the list with the arrows, or the inner left and right thumb controls
on the front of the display the Braille display doesn't follow the PC
cursor. Alt tabbing to another application and back refreshes the display.
Has anyone experienced this? I have read all the documentation I can find,
and Structured Mode looks like it should be a powerful tool, but I haven't
been able to make much use of it. I have been using Speech Box Mode, mostly
in dialogs and when switching between applications, especially when I get
lost/confused. In what situations are you all using Line Mode, Speech Box
Mode, and Structured Mode? Is omething wrong with Structured Mode, or is it
operator incompetence that is keeping me from using it. What kinds of
scripts have you all developed for, or found useful with the Braille
Window? Has anyone written a refresh Braille display script? Has anyone
noticed any difference in performance between connecting via parallel and
sierial ports? Also is there a forum for discussion of using Braille with
Windows and screen readers?

I don't think there are many of us using these things, as they cost so
much, so please feel free to contact me privately. I will appreciate any
tips on using this marvel of engineering.

Best regards

Gator
