Carriage returns, to MsWord, are paragraph marks.
When I read your question I didn't know the answer either so I brought up
word, went to the help index, typed find, and found an entry for finding
special characters.
It turns out that the shift of 6 (karat ^) followed by the letter p
identifies a paragraph mark.
