reading word count dialog in Word 97

Hi to the list. Does anybody know of a way to read the word count in the
dialog box in Word 97? When I go into the dialog, I can only find two
controls, the "close" button and a checkbox for ignoring header and footer
text. I cannot get JFW to speak the actual word count for the document. Is
there a hot key for this, or is there something I'm just not doing? I would
really  appreciate some help on this. Thanks in advance. Tracey Kier.
