do not know of a free one, but both cyber media, now own by network

and clean sweep now owned by norton should have trial copies.
or at least they did in the past.
both get a great review for speech friendlyness.
when trialing the cybermedia uninstaller their is one place where the user
needs to turn on echo all.
insert key on num lock plus letter s key keystroke
other than that it is one of the easiest programs i have ever used.
in fact i removed about 1.4 meg of programs with it, and as a result i did not
have one missing dll file.
this is on a system where i installed everything prior to buying the
uninstaller.
be aware that if you upgrade to 1.2 of active accessability that will make
this program not echo anything.
i suspect jfw 3.3 will solve the problem.
i removed all programs on my system so i would be starting from scratch when
installing 98.
so the program had a good work out by this user, and i was impressed.
plus it will work with norton recycle bin.
also the instructions for this program, are in a file in eudora format on the
web on the mirror jfw users list site.
the file name is software.exe
also one can go into details to see what files where modified by a certain
application.
that helps the user to understand how the program works.
not how the uninstaller works, but the program you are about to remove.
plus this program has a feature called quick clean that does a excellent job
of cleaning out the registry.
though it is not as good as norton utilities windoctor.
the cyber media uninstaller is now 29 dollars.
with that said, norton utilities is sold in a package deal for 59 dollars that
also has clean sweep.
it includes several other programs.
when i bought the cybermedia tool i mainly picked it because microsoft picked
it.
part of the win 98 plus package has a limitted version of the cybermedia
uninstaller.
wel my reasoning was that about all of the win 95 plus package was brought
into win 98 and maid part of the operateing system.
it also is supposed to be the very best at removeing aps with out screwing
things up, it uses a internal data base of knowledge of certain popular
programs to do this.
of course it does this in conjunction with studying the system.
for instance it even caught the fact that the program i was uninstalling
was linked to a shareware editor.
the program was configured so that one could call up a editor like notepad, or
one of its replacements.
of course it also monitors for shared dll files and warns the user not to
uninstall when they are shared files.
if the cyber media program is number one, then the clean sweep is neck and
neck with it for being feature ritch.
they where the first to offer features for dealing with internet files, and in
this area it probley is better than the cybermedia uninstaller.
not being a user of the program i shall let others remark on its good points.
the bottom line is that cybermedia does have the ability to deal with internet
files, but it takes some work setting it up right.
