Hello Listers,

After some consideration I decided to upgrade my video card to a Diamond
Viper Riva 128 PCI. I checked H.J.'s website concerning video
computability and noted this card is compatible with JfW 3.2 and Windows
98. This is what I am running.

Well, I installed the card, with the Win 98 default drivers and had
nothing but problems since. Main problems are JfW 3.2.031 makes various
applications "crash". Outlook Express, Internet Explorer 4.01, Office
97. I've not had the possibility to try any other applications for
crashing. The usual error messages are: 1. explorer caused a GPF in
OSM16.DLL 2. MSINUI.DLL has performed an illegal operation and will be
shut down. These problems do not occur when JfW is not loaded. Also
happens with Eloquence or Dectalk PC1 internal (4.2CD).

When Internet Explorer is opened there are no problems until I go to a
webpage. The page loads, but when I try to click on a link...crash!
Occasionally, my sighted partner tells me the screen is gibberish.
Outlook express 4.0 works fine as long as I do not go to the internet
explorer.

Display is currently set to 8 by 6 and 16 bit colours. Also happens with
6 by 4 and 16 bit colours and 12 by 7 and 16 bit. I have a P233 mmx with
64 Mb RAM and 4 Mb on the video card.

I have had IE 5.0 and OE 5.0 installed in the last few days but had to
un-install them as my system didn't appear to run properly. Does anyone
think this has anything to do with the problems?

Any indications to what the problem could be would be much appreciated.
And, if this card is not compatible, according to H.J., should I take it
back to PC World and get an alternative card?

Regards,

Andy
