Well, personally I like the Idea of voice mail but for lists like this, it is
not a good solution.
For starters, text can be searched which is useful and much of the data (like
script info, URL links etc) needs to be in text form to be used by others.
Also, I am quite sure that the technical requirements of voice mail would
eliminate some users which would obviously not be fare and It would also make
it very difficult for new members to get involved. My opinion is that it would
be best to keep the list at the lowest common technical denominator.
As to direct replies. I would suspect that a good 75 percent of what I learn on
this list comes from following threads and reading the posts from other
members. I think it is essential to always reply to the list, direct replies
defeat the whole purpose. If you want to send a direct reply as well, which is
what I generally do, that is fine. In fact it can be especially useful for
those that receive the digest as they won't necessarily have to wait untill the
next digest for an answer. Keep the replies on list, it helps everyone.
Of course, as has been said a million times, if your message is off topic,
don't send it to the list and don't reply to others that do.
