In response to a query concerning win98 settings, I offer the
following post from Charles Coe from Jan. 99; hope the person
asking about that topic finds it useful!
Subject: windows 98
For anyone who is interested, here is what needs to be done to get
JAWS 3.2 working properly under Windows 98.
Open Configuration Manager when in Windows Explorer or on your
Desktop.
This will open the shdocvw.jcf file. From the Set Options Menu,
select Graphics and Symbols and uncheck the Graphics Mode checkbox.
Press enter on the OK button and Save the file with a ctrl+s. This
will speed up access to Windows Explorer.
Open your Default File with a shift+ctrl+d.
Select the Synthesizer Options dialog box from the Set Options
menu. Check the box labelled "Allow Wave Files with Software
Synthesizers". Press enter on the OK button and save your file.
This will stop the occasional stuttering heard with software
synthesizers on Windows 98, even on fast machines.
What to do to Windows 98:
>From the Start Menu, select Settings. Select Control Panel from
the Settings menu. When in Control Panel, open the View menu,
(alt+v), and make sure that "View as Web Page" is unchecked.
Select Display from the list of icons in Control Panel, and select
the "Web" Tab. Uncheck View as Web Page.
On the "Effects" tab, uncheck the "Animate windows, desktop and
menus" checkbox. Press OK and close Control Panel. As you
navigate, you should by now see an increase in speed and
navigability with Jaws. Select Start|Settings|Folder Options.
>From the three radio buttons, select Classic and press OK. This
will allow the My Computer and other icons to display in the
traditional Win95/NT fashion.
