Attention to anybody installing k1000 version 4.0 with jfw, here's a solution and some info if you are having trouble. This came from my coworker with De Witt and Associates, a NJ firm that handles training and technology solutions for the New Jersey commission for the lind and vari9ous other independent cl9ients. I work for this firm as the head of the technology resource center in New Brunswick NJ and thought this information would assist everybody. >>>Yesterday, while installing Eileen Gough's Kurzweil 1000 Version 4.0, I >did the following and got the following error: >>> >>>1. Booted up computer; JAWS started up automatically. >>>2. Disabled Norton stuff. >>>3. Unloaded JAWS. >>>4. Installed K1000, which failed with the following error: >>> >>>INS0432 PROGRAM HAS PERFORMED AN ILLEGAL OPERATION. >>>When we clicked on details, it said: >>>INS0432 CAUSED AN INVALID PAGE FAULT IN MODULE DIRECTORYMANAGER.OCX AT >>>016F:01C910E5 >>> >>>The following solution will overcome this problem: >>> >>>1. Create a file called c:\windows\wininit.ini, which should contain the >>>following two lines: >>>[rename] >>>c:\windows\system\mfc42.dll=c:\windows\system\mfc42.1 >>2. Take JAWS out of the registry by unchecking START JAWS FIRST. >>3. Restart the computer. >>Note: Once you have rebooted, you'll notice your wininit.ini file has been >>renamed to wininit.bak. That's all right. >>4. Disable Norton stuff. >>5. Install K1000. >> >>> >>>The way to prevent this problem in the first place is: >>> >>>1. Take JAWS out of the registry by unchecking START JAWS FIRST >>>2. reboot >>>3. Install Kurzweil 1000 >>> >>>Even after I unloaded JAWS yesterday, JAWS was still "using" JFC42.DLL. >>>the K1000 uses a newer version of this file and tries to replace the older >>>copy during the install. Since the file is "in use", the replacement >>>attempt fails, resulting in the above problem. >>> >> >>>Rick Fox >>> >Any Questions??? Call Rick. - Visit the jfw ml web page: http://jfw.cjb.net
