I think there's more to this than just a bblanket statement that JFW 3.2
and IE 5 won't read .phtml files.
I did try
http://www.psn.net/access/dialup.phtml
and couldn't read text with the Jaws cursor. JFW acted as if the screen
were blank. Tabbing or selecting links did show the text of the links but
nothing else. There is text on the page because cut and paste to a
different application produced that text in the other application.
However, if you try
http://www.teleport.com/info/numbers.phtml
I think you will find that you can read text. I'm not an expert on the
inner workings of .phtml pages so will have to do some further
investigations of the specifics of what's happening.
What is interesting is that loading Window-Eyes caused the page to read
fine and that's without turning on their MSAA mode. What WE calls Mouse
Pointer is kind of the equivalent of reading with the Jaws cursor and I
could explore the text of the screen in detail. I'm mentioning this, not
to praise or bash either product, but for comparison purposes. Even
without MSAA or Mouse Pointer reading in WE, I did hear text when the
troublesome pages loaded.
Does anyone have ideas on this?
