I recently sent the gist of this message to Walter. The accented letters are high ascii characters -- 128 through 154. These include the vowels a e i o u and others. Accents can be acute, grave, circumflex, umlaut, cedilla, diagram (ae) etc. Some of the characters have both lower case and upper case versions. E-acute is (lowercase) ascii 130 and (upper case) 144. Some considerations: 1. Can you type one or all of these and read on the braille display or hear spoken what you are editing? 2. Do they all affect the dectalk or is it just e-acute? 3. What if you want to read a foreign language? What then? 4. Finally, what of our friends in Europe? Are there no French men or women using dectalk? Do they have this problem? Just some thoughts. Could one of you programmer dudes tell the dictionary to replace ascii characters 128-154 with ascii 032 -- the empty space?
