Actually, the two commands are a bit different. Apparently, control-insert-f9
performs the additional step of labeling any
new system tray icons before displaying the list. Insert-f9 by itself does not
perform this extra step. Without actually
looking at the default script file, one way in which this difference is evident is the
time required for the two commands to
execute. The control-insert-f9 command takes a good deal longer to execute than does
insert-f9 by itself. This would
make sense if the graphics were being labeled first. Of course, all of this can be
seen in the default script file, but many
do not desire or need to be working in that file. Keep in mind that these two
commands will not work if the task bar and
system tray are not visible. This can happen if you are working in a maximized window
such as Internet Explorer. I think
it is best to minimize all applications before trying to use these commands. Press
insert-f6 to minimize all applications and
return to the desktop. Then, press either insert-f9 or control-insert-f9. You may
then use alt-tab to return to the window
in which you were working. If this procedure is followed, the insert-f9 command key
conflict with Internet Explorer is not
an issue.
