That same thing happens with my dectalk pc1.  It is aggrivating, but I
haven't figured a way around it.  I just noticed in this message, that the
word haven't does that if I am listening to the message with the say all
command, or if I do a say line, but if I put my cursor on the word, and do
a say word, then it says it right, and if I read the line a word at a time,
it says it right.  Weird.
