ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE AND JFW

Hi.  
Could anyone please tell me about anti-virus software, the way in which it
is used, suggest some software which won't affect JFW which is easy to
install and where I could get it from?
For someone who has used computers for a while, anti-virus software is
something I have little knoledge about, the principle of how to work it
anyway although I do know what it is.
