Are you sure that there is no screen saver set?

if the pc is not touched for a short while, and there is a screen saver
enabled, then it will pop up and a sound may be played.

go to control pannel/display and go to the screen saver tab. It is advisable
to have screen saver set to "none" with jfw.

Subject: Windows Changes to High Contrast

I have come across a bizarre thing happening on two totally separate systems
(one with Win 95 and one with Win 98). The only common thread that I am
aware of is JFW3.2 and that on both of these systems, at some point, the
Windows High Contrast color scheme was used. Now, when the colors are set
back to Windows Standard and the system is restarted everything appears to
be fine, until the machine sits for 10 minutes or so without being used.
Out of the blue the PC speaker will emit a to short tone and the screen will
return to the High Contrast mode without any keys or anything being pressed.
I don't if this could be related to JFW or not. Has anyone else ever seen
anything at all like this before?
