Well, now that jfw 3.3 is out of the beta stage, I can tell y'all a little
about what's going on. There is a definite improvement as far as the
general responsiveness of cakewalk itself is concerned. Screens are drawn
much more qucily when switching between windows, and when you hit the
spacebar now cakewalk starts right up even with complex projects loaded.
The cursor still tracks quite sluggishly, but it does seem to keep the
focus better, even if you move down a bunch of tracks quickly, although
you'll have to wait a while for jaws to catch up. The shortcuts and
console view features in the jfw scripts for cakewalk 8 are much more
reliable now, and if you go out and get the studio mix interface, I've put
some stuff in the scripts to help with that too.
I don't really know if jfw has actually looked at cakewalk yet, or whether
these improvements are coincidental, a result of other fixes they have
made for other applications. It still has a way to go, we should be able to
track the focus rectangle as quickly as window bridge and arctic can, but
at least now cakewalk 8 is a bit more practical to use then it was with jfw
3.2. This is being sent to both the midi-mag and jfw lists.
