Hey David, I have a brilliant idea!
I think we may be able to get jfw32 working with the ms speech after all!
All right!
I put those lines in my jfw.ini file, David... and to my surprise! yes to
my surprise! with jfw32, they worked! They worked! However, to my dismay,
when I try to use the ms speech engine, it's not working and eloquence is
still speaking. So,
Give up! no! Here's what to do.
1. for all who are interested in using ms speech with jfw32, look in your
jfw32 directory.
look for your synth's driver name.
Here's a better example to clarify this:
I'm using jfw with eloquence and I want to use, let's say, dectalk access 32.
1. go to jaws window.
2. press alt+l and c.
3. press d for dectalk or go to dectalk access32 and press enter!
You may all wonder how exactly jfw switches to dectalk access 32 and why it
doesn't sit there? Well, here's the answer.!
When changing synths, jfw looks in the jfw.ini file for the port if any,
and a driver name.
The lines may look like:
synth1name=decaccs32
synth1long-name=dectalk access 32
port=
driver=deccacc
Ok, jfw has found a file in the jfw32 directory called decacc.dll which is
the jaws support file! for dectalk access 32. Next, jaws checks to see if
dectalk access32 is installed. If it finds dectalk it loads dectalk drivers
and dectalk will speak.
Now, suppose we erase decacc.dll. You can try to change to dectalk and it
won't work, because jaws would say "no driver? unahble to load speech and "
"return" you to your previous synth.
Well, if you put
driver=MSSPEECH
in jfw.ini, why not add a dot dll extension? Because jfw knows the driver
extensions.
My point being! no MSSPEECH.dll file in the jfw32 directory? No ms speech
support! So! for those of you who want to use ms speech with jfw32,
you must somehow get your hands on a msspeech.dll file. Just the same, if
there are any of you who for some odd reason have erased your bns.dll file
and you're wondering why the bns ain't working, you have to get your hands
on a bns.dll file!
I installed those lines, and I got the ms speech option in my jfw32
synthesizer selection menu.
Here are my jfw32 synthesizer choises.
braille 'n speak
eloquence for jfw
no speech
microsoft speech
Why won't it change? Because I don't have the msspeech.dll and maybe
another file named msspeech... with another extention!
So, if any of you are knowledgable about computers, I'd appreciate it if
you'd look in your jfw32 directories on your computers and look for a file
called msspeech.dll or and any and all files named msspeech.*** with any
and all extentions and send them to me!
If I don't get a response by the end of the day or so. I'll be forced to
download the trial version of jfw33, install it with ms speech, copy that
msspeech.dll file into my jfw32 directory, erase jfw33:
a lot of work!
