jfw and doubletalk

I have a doubletalk external synth.  I have a computer at home and one at
work.  I can get the doubletalk to work on the computer at work without no
problems.  When I attempt to get it to work on the computer at home nothing.
Could I have a bad serial port?  How can I see if the port is bad?
