Are the columns in a table or is the document formatted to display columns?
If you are dealing with a table then use TAB to read the cells. If you are
dealing with a document with multiple columns created with the Column
command on the Formatting menu then view the document in Normal view rather
than page view. In Normal view, the document is decolumized sincei t doesn
otd isplay columns side by side.
Other times, I have encountered documents displaying columns that do not fit
either oft he above mentioned situations. These documents seem to come from
my K1000 scans. For example, when I scan a course syllabus the week number
is in the first column, the date in the next, the description in the next,
etc. When I read line by line with the PC curser only the week columni s
spoken. To read the entire line I need to use the JAWS cursor. If this is
the situation you are dealing with then here is a trick to easily decolumize
the document or any part of a document for reading with JFW.
1. Select the text you wish to decolumize.
2. Copy the selection to the clipboard.
3. Prepare a blank document for pasting the text into.
4. From the Edit menu choose Paste Special.
5. From the Paste Special dialog box choose Unformatted text.
What you paste is a text-only version of what is on the clipboard. All
formatting , including columns are gone. View the document in Normal view
and you should have no troubles.
