Hi List.
It occured to me after reading the below message that there is a way to set
up the MyComputer method of navigating through your system that some on this
list are probably not aware of. One of the reasons I used to prefer to use
Windows Explorer over MyComputer was that entering a new folder did not
spawn a new window and the contents of each folder is presented as a list
view in the right pain.
If you want MyComputer to display all subfolders in list view automatically
and not spawn a new window for each subfolder you enter follow these steps.
1. Click on the MyComputer Icon found on the desktop.
2. Go to the View menu, Alt+V, and choose either list or details.
-The "List" option displays file and folder names only. On the other hand,
"Details" displays the name plus file size, date etc.
3. Next go back to the view menu and choose "Options" at the bottom of the
menu.
4. Find the"Folders" page in this multi tab dialog. On my system it is the
first page in this dialog box.
5. Choose "Browse folders by using a single window as you open each folder"
radio button.
6. Press the Ok button.
To make it even more convenient to browse your system attach a hot key to
the MyComputer Icon. I use Alt+Control+M.
I find that our clients, starting out in the windows environment, get less
confused when using this setup for file management. No need to deal with
two pains, tree view and list view, or getting lost amung the miriad of open
windows.
Try it you might like it.
Cheers,
Vince.

Subject: Re: Reply to Harry RE Temp Files
In my computer, using the MyComputer program, I am able to find three temp
files. Going to the C: drive in MyComputer program, open it and press_ or
the letter "t" and I get _temp, which is a file on C: drive. By pressing
the letter"w" until I hear the word "windows", then opening it by pressing
the enter key, I am presented with many files. Then by pressing the letter
"t" until I hear "temp" and or "temporary internet files". You open these
files by pressing the enter key, when the focus is on them.
As a rule, whenever I open a file or directory, I place the view in list
view format, which makes it easier for me to arrow through the files listed
there. I do this by first using the command alt+v,l and this will place the
opened file in list view format.
There are a couple of other ways to do this not described here, but they
work similarly. Using Windows Explorer will yield the same results, and
using the find program on your start menu will also yield similar results.
I just like to use the list view format alt+v,l to look in all directory and
folders- even when using the find program.
Hope this helps,
Harry
