I don't know of any specific setting that causes the next message to appear when you
delete the previous one.

Just curious: Are you reading messages by pressing <Enter> to open them? If not, I
would recommend using that approach. I ask because you could be tabbing over into the
preview pane, conceivably. The HJ folks recommend hiding the preview pane and reading
messages by pressing <Enter> on the highlighted message in the message list. To hide
the preview pane, open the "View" pull-down menu, cursor down to "Layout", and press
<Enter>. Then tab through the Layout dialog box and make sure "Show preview Pane" is
not checked.

One other thing, I find that a new message only appears if I press Control-D on a
message and there is another message listed after the one I'm deleting in the message
list. If I'm deleting the last message in the list, then I wind up back in my inbox.
I hope this helps.

Cheers,
Jerry
