I suspect the Office Assistant is lurking in the background somewhere if
you haven't gotten rid of him permanently.  To do so, you can look for the
Actors folder by performing a Find operation from the Start Menu.  I
renamed this folder DeadActors, and the Assistant went away.  After this, I
got my OK button in the Spell Checker.
