Even with Sun's release of whatever they have for Java access, I believe
that the developer of the Java stuff will have to use the accessibility
material to make a difference.  There's no guarantee that this will happen
on any particular site.

In general I've found that one has to make extensive use of the Jaws cursor
when encountering Java applets on the web.  I do use several though and
once you know what's happening, creating frames around critical items can
make reading a lot faster.
