Yes, turn off the preview pane which you can find in the layout dialog
under the View menu. Then, use the list view to open the messages by
arrowing through the list and hitting ENTER on the message that you
want to read. Once the message is open, the hotkeys for reading the
header info should work.
Press CTRL-D to delete the message and automatically open the next
message and begin the reading of it.
