You might try selecting a bit of text silently, as it were. Then you could unlock the
mouse button and move the JAWS cursor to the area you had selected and see if you can
tell any difference between the colors of the selected text and the colors of adjacent
text that isn't supposed to be selected. Press and hold the Insert key and then tap
the "5" key at the top of your keyboard to hear the color at the active cursor. If
there is no difference at all between the text that's supposed to be highlighted and
text that isn't, then you may have tried to select text in an area of your program
where that just isn't permitted. If the text you tried to highlight is indicated as
being in highlighted print, then I'm not sure what the problem is. If the highlighted
block is indicated by some special color combination rather than by actual
highlighting, then you may need to set up your .JCF file so that it recognizes a set
of custom highlighting colors for your particular application !

and that you have it installed in the default directory on your computer.
I can tell you that you ought to be able to highlight a block in a standard program
like Notepad and have the text spoken as you highlight it with the locked JAWS cursor.
