What you need to do is create a filter. Below are detailedsteps on
just how to accomplish thisfrom sent to me by another lister. Hope
this helps you.
Please ensure your Eudora application is maximized.
To start with, it is important to note that you can filter to folders
or to
mailboxes within folders. I have found it is much easier to create your
folders
and/or mailboxes prior to setting up the filters. I know there is a
way to
create folders and mailboxes while you are in the middle of setting a
filter
But we will create the mailbox first.
To create a mailbox, go to the Mailbox menu )Alt + X) and select the
"New"
option using either your Down Arrow or by pressing n. Once you have
positioned
yourself on New, press Enter. At this point you are prompted to give
your new
mailbox a name however this is also where you can give a new folder a
name as
well. Once you have typed in a name for your new mailbox, let's call it
jfw, or folder, press Tab.
You now have the option to make this a folder or a mailbox, the prompt
is
"Make this a folder, Check box not checked" which means the default
will be
the creation of a mailbox. If you wish to make this a folder, press the
Space Bar.
Press Tab to advance to either OK or press Tab once again to Cancel.
Once you have created your mailboxes or folders, they will appear in
your
Mailbox menu in alphabetical order immediately following the New
option. The
New option will always precede any custom created folders or mailboxes.
If you
wish to create a single or multiple mailboxes within a folder, go to
your
Mailbox menu (Alt + x) and arrow down to the folder which will contain
your
new mailbox. Position yourself on the folder of choice and press Enter.
Within the
folder you will find the New option. Position your cursor on the New
option and
press Enter. As before, you will be prompted to enter the name of the
mailbox
you wish to create. Once you have entered the name, you can tab over to
the OK
button or simply press Enter as the default check box is always set to
create a
mailbox versus a folder. You can create as many mailboxes as you wish
while you
are here by simply positioning yourself on the New option within the
folder.
As you create mailboxes or folders, you will notice they form a list in
alphabetical order following the New option as mentioned before. Now
you are
ready to create filters to work with your customized folders and/or
mailboxes.
From the menu bar, select Tools (Alt + T) then select the Filters
option. Tab
over until you locate the New Button, then press Enter. Jaws will
announce the
creation of an "untitled" filter to the list box.
Pressing F6 will now allow you to select and edit the variables or
criteria
you wish to include in your filter. The first check box you will
encounter is
"Match incoming, check box checked". Leave this as it is and Tab
through the
next two check boxes until Jaws announces "Header edit combo." Use your
down
arrow until you locate "Any header" Which I found that I was on, but to
make
sure, press the down-arrow once, than the up-arrow to make
sure that is what you are on, and press Tab.
Jaws will respond with
"Match header combo box any header contains." There are a variety of
filtering
options you can select by down arrowing through the options. For your
jfw
filter (and most other filters for that matter,)you will want to select
"Contains." With your cursor on Contains, press Tab. Jaws will respond
with
"Match edit". At this point, you can type in:
jfw
or whatever other phrase or words might be in the header you wish to
filter.
For now we will stick to a jfw filter. After you have typed jfw
press Tab. Jaws will respond with "Match combo box any header jfw
ignore."
In Eudora's attempt to be all things to all people, they have given you
the
option to add several filtering options to your filters. For example if
you
wanted a filter that would send all messages that were addressed to jfw
directed to your jfw mailbox, that is what this filter we are creating
will
do. However you may want to create a more complex filtering action to
direct
all messages addressed to jfw except for those that are from say,
[EMAIL PROTECTED] Messages addressed to jfw from a given E-mail
address
or that meet other criteria can be filtered into another
mailbox....maybe
directly into the trash
The next three tabs will allow you to establish
additional criteria within your filters but for the purpose of setting
up our
jfw filter, we will simply skip over this as it is not necessary. Press
Tab
three times until you get to the "Action combo box" which will
default to
"None." Down arrow or press t until you locate "Transfer to." Once
your
positioned on the Transfer to option, press Tab five times until Jaws
announces
"Action {Name of Mailbox - Initially In} Button." Once you are on the
Action
{Name of Mailbox}button, press Enter and Jaws will announce "Contacts
Menu
{Name of Mailbox.}" Using your down arrow, select the mailbox which you
created
in the opening steps of this class. Once you have selected the mailbox
by
positioning your cursor on the mailbox of choice, press Enter. You can
save
the filter at this point by pressing Ctrl + s. If you select a folder
sub-menu
first, you will be presented with a list of mailboxes within the
folder. Select
the mailbox with your down or up arrow and press Enter. Save the filter
by
pressing Ctrl +s. Close the window by pressing Ctrl + F4. If you forgot
to save
the filter prior to closing the window, Eudora will recognize your
mistake and
prompt you with a save option like all other windows applications.
This concludes The Making of Filters ithin Eudora Light. However, this
also
works in eudora pro.
I hope this helps. This does not get into complicated filtering, but
it will get you started with simple filters.
