Why This Worry About Focus?

I may be a fairly new user to JFW and Windows programs.  But I am still
wondering why all this worry about lost focus when you can press hot keys
to launch your applications or press the windows keys?  Why do we need a
focus on the desktop?  Maybe I'm funny, but even if there appears to be a
loss of focus I don't worry about it.
