eudora pro 4.01 almost fixed but

I am using eudora 4.01 with jfw 3.2 and I been having some problems but I
almost got everything working again. However, the problem now is when I
turn on "speaking of download messages status" I don't hear anything until
the download is complete. I have toggled the ctrl-shift-d on and off and I
hear the script info but that's it. Also, sometimes I like to use insert-b
to see how many messages left but this does not talk either. any ideas? thanks.
