Hi list,
I'm just curious why so many people on this list are having trouble with
JAWS for DOS. I've been using it since 1991, and found it to be the
mmost powerful and flexible DOS screen reader. (And I'm sure that many
of you have been using it longer than I). I chose JFD for the same
reason I choose to use JFW. It is the superior product on the markett.
(And now JFD is free, simply by downloading it).
It does take some sighted assistance to get installed for the first time,
but after that, There shouldn't be too many problems. Read the manual.
The menu system is probably where most new users should focus. Once that
is learned and completely understood, JFD is a very handy tool. If
you're using JFW then you already know most of the keystrokes to use for
JFD. (another reason I stayed with JAWS when I switched to the Windows
platform).
It may take a little more effort on your part to understand JFD's
workings, compared to some "easier" DOS screen readers, but it is worth
the effort in the long run. And if yu understand JFW it shouldn't take
that much effort to comprehend JFD's features and capabilities.
Those of you having problems, give it a second chance. I can't speak for
HJ tech. support, but I would tend to think they would be more likely to
assist you in using JFD in a DOS window, verses some other DOS screen
reader in a DOS window.
[Okay ... Okay ... I'm off my soapbox]
Have a good day,
Dave
