To rid yourself properly of unwanted components of msoffice put your
installation disk in and when the installation window opens choose setup. You
will be given the option of modifying the installation. There you will have a
list box of installed items. Just uncheck shortcut bar and or assistant and
choose ok. 
It's quick and easy and you don't screw up the program.
