I've put windows in high color, 16 bit mode and it seems to not crash as
much. I had a game I set up for the kids (no it's not speech friendly) and
when I ran it with jfw loaded in memory, scrape scrach! this program has
performed an illegal operation and your computer will freese up, your hard
disk will fragment all over the place like broken glass, and other nasty
surprises which I'll leave you to discover.
I tried switching the computer to high color 16 bit mode and the game ran
no problem.
I have also found out that setting the computer in 16 bit high color mode
to stop other programs from crashing. But. there's a catch. It seems that
if you want jfw to read graphic labeling properly, you have to set it up in
256 color mode, enter an ms-dos prompt, press ctrl-enter, then type exit.
I hope this message is of some help and will prevent more system crashes in
the future. P.s if jfw crashes on your new computer when you try to
install it, have a sighted assistant help you to enter the control pannel
and go through the display settings with you.
