You have a number of options. Sounf Forge and Cooledit now both have
plug-ins that will allow you to save directly in MP3. I think the Cooledit
add-on is free, the Sonic Foundry one is new and I don't know how much they
charge for it. Both programmes work very well with JFW, although I think
Sound Forge has better keyboard features for refiened editing. If you only
want to record stuff fromr ecords, this may not be important to you.
The other option is to use the wave file recorder of your choice, and use a
very JFW-friendlyapplication called Xing MP3 encoder. It sells for US$20,
but the big advantage of this encoder is its umnatched speed.
