Hi,

Apart from the attached article being of general interest, I
would like to know if using the new ATHLON chip instead of an
Intel product is likely to cause any problems when using JFW.
          Any ideas?

               Gerry.

          AMD'S DO-OR-DIE CHIP
Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) may now be able to compete with
Intel in the high-end chip market with its new Athlon processor.
AMD today plans to announce that Compaq and IBM will release
Athlon-based PCs later this month. The 600 MHz Athlon is about
9 percent faster than Intel's 600 MHz Pentium III, according to
performance data that PC World will publish next month.
Furthermore, the Athlon is 21 percent faster than the Pentium III
with 3D modeling software, according to graphics tests. AMD
plans to unveil a 650 MHz Athlon, which will be quicker than
Intel's fastest Pentium III. The Athlon will initially be aimed
at high-end PC users at home and in small offices, but next year
will target the corporate workstation and server market.
Meanwhile, Intel later this year plans to ship an update to the
Pentium III that is faster than 600 MHz. (Reuters 08/09/99)
