Microsoft came out with a product called sms.
System management software.
Its current version and jfw 3.30.26 are incompatible.
This is because a program in
c:\windows\ms\bin\
called clisvc95.exe insists on doing a page fault on
c:\jfw33\jhook.dll.
What business sms has doing anything with any part of jfw is a puzzlement to
me.
The bottom line is that if jfw is running on your computer not all of sms
can or will run.
This makes for a very miserable existence for the jfw user unless and until
their computer is exempted from running sms.
I figured to put this message up on the list to warn anyone working inside
of a network type installation using jfw that if sms is installed it's a
good idea to get it uninstalled and permanently
prevented from running on the jfw pc.
This error wasn't all that easy to track down since Microsoft had
clisvc95.exe written so fast that
it misidentifies itself as
clisv95 when that page fault error comes up.
If anyone running sms and I hope I'm the only one on the list to be so
unfortunate does:
dir c:\clis*.* /b /s <cr>
at a dos prompt clisvc95.exe will show up in the ms\sms\bin directory tree.
sms may or may not be located under the c:\windows directory on your disk
either.
In an earlier version that was running, c:\ms\sms\bin\clisvc95.exe
was in a path like that.
So long as there's no good stuff in the ms subdirectory and sms is all
that's there, it's a good
idea to have it administratively disabled and then uninstall the whole thing
with:
delltree /y c:\windows\ms
or
deltree /y c:\ms
