Several months ago I mentioned that I have scripts for MS Works 4.5a for
Win95 that I developed in JFW 3.0083. These scripts are not compatible under
JFW3.3 but I now have JFW3.3 installed and am ready to start building new
scripts.
I am curious about several things:
First, who out there is developing Works scripts? It would make sense if we
consolidate our work.
Second, which features do the majority of us use?
Personally, what I developed before was good use of the word processor and
the spread sheet. I did nothing on the database and nothing on the
communication module.
Regarding the word processor:
Spell check was the most important in my mind so I added the following
features:
When starting spell check with the F7 key, the current window is
automatically enlarged to full screen.
During spell check the user has the ability to use control or shift key
combinations with th F7 key to read and spell the misspelled word and the
suggested word. It is also possible to read the misspelled word in context
which in this case means reading the line that contains the misspelled word.
I also added a hot key to read the current page of page number.
Minor additions added some characters to the dictionary to read such special
characters as Page Break.
Regarding the Spread Sheet:
I added some frames to read both the current cell location and the data in
the current cell. using separate frames was important in order to enable a
method to identify cells that had a formula instead of data.
In the event the user comes to a cell with a formula, the formula is read
and a hot key can be used to hear the result of the formula.
The spell checker also works in the spread sheet, more or less as it does in
the word processor.
I never bothered with the opening Works Task Launcher as I find it is far
more useful to create, name and launch new files from Explorer. In general I
find the universal 'Save As' dialog box pretty useless. I also never
bothered with the Task Wizards as my mom does not need such fancy stuff.
As I mentioned above, I ignored the Works database as I found it was just
too weak for our needs. The same went for the communications module.
