One of the best things to do is update to the latest JFW version 3.3.xx.
Eloquence runs much better in this version.

We have just installed (belatedly) Jaws32 with eloquence as an update. We
were using Jaws30 with a dectalk express. We find the slowness of eloquence
speech irritating. For example after hitting a key there is a noticeable
lag time before the corresponding speech. Is anyone aware of a fix for this
