Everybody has an opinion, mine is it can't hurt. Unfortunately the last
manual I have been able to get my hands on is MSdos 5.0 but for
the most part I don't think there have been many underlining changes.
You can start right in the help file of windows, under MSdos, it will tell
you how to get help with commands. Dos has a some internal commands
and some commands that are small programs, with the file extension .com
Do a find and on *.com and you will find some on my system they
are in c:\windows\command. And if all else fails you can ask me and
I will look it up for you. Although I will try to find an electronic copy
of the dos manual, there must be one. I still do some dos calls but
less and less as the languages get more sophisticated. but it is
always nice to be able to go there, some of the higher lever
functions sometimes don't work as well as you might like.
Once you find the commands and want help, do the following,
by the way, I got this right out of the win95 help, there isn't much
there but enough to get started.
To display Help for an MS-DOS command
At the command prompt, type the name of the command you want Help on,
followed by /?.
For example, type chdir /? to get Help on the CHDIR command.
Tip
To display Help text one screen at a time, type the command followed by |
more. For example, type dir /? | more for Help on the DIR command.
