Unix is another operating system that's not Intel-based to start out
with. If that's not enough problems, it's also a true multi-user
multi-tasking operating system, unlike Windows, which purports to be
but really isn't. In Unix, everything you do is a distinct other
process, whether that means entering commands at your terminal or
running an application like WordPerfect. The problems posed by this
way of doing things include, but are not limited to, your root process
having access to other processes you own, which JAWS would surely need
to have to read the screens of the other processes. This is just
scratching the surface of the problems, but I'll bet somebody
somewhere late at night after hours is pickling on them and working on
solutions. I estimate another year-and-a-half to two years before we
see a JFU.
In the meantime, there are other programs which do some of what JFD
can do, but nothing that'll emulate or even simulate or come even
within striking distance of JFW for Unix.
