This is not a case of JFW reading anything wrong. It is actually
Word's Autoformat option making the dash into an en dash for you as
you type.

You can remove this feature by selecting AutoCorrect from the tools
menu.

Then move to the "AutoFormat as you type" tab and uncheck the box
which refers to replacing the - and -- symbols with em dash and en
dash.

Then, go to the AutoFormat tab and turn it off there as well. This
way it won't happen as you type and also won't happen when you format
the document.

Probably just as well to leave it alone.
