Well, it was a stab in the dark.
I have noticed, hard to miss really, out of the blue my PC speaker begins a
descending howling sound, other noises issue from the computer tower and
everything shudders to a hault, much as happens when you hit one of those
nasty words. This seems to happen in OE and IE and it seems to have
something to do with a character rather than a word because moving into any
identified known area letter by letter has not proven to be a useful way to
try to detect the offending issue. Clearly if you are using a hardware
synth it must be something else. In my case I don't have any idea but with
the long slow boot process in Windows it is damn inconvenient. I am still
on JAWS 3.2.
