98 is not an upgrade to oe5.  you'd have to go to oe 2,000 for that.
as to the problem at hand, something is accumulating on the hd.  make
sure you delete all your messages or save the ones you want somewhere
else.  I'm not certain that I understand your problem in total so this
is the best I can do at this point.  If the problem is that it begins
to happen during the first session and you haven't gotten that many
messages than there is a memory problem.  I don't know what computer
you are using or what version and build of windows.  I know there have
been several enhancements that microsoft have made to oe since it was
upgraded to 5.
