I had heard of emacs speak which as far as, i know works with the dectalk
series of voice synthesizers, but there are a couple of screen readers for
other synthesizers as well as far as, i understand it.

you should check out the blinux mailing list which is a mailing list for the
blind who use linux a version of unix.
