I use the encyclopedia Britannica 99 Standard Edition. I don't know if the
following is applicable to other versions. It is not speech friendly, but
it is usable. Here are a few basics that may help.
The only way I have found to access the search results is to manually arrow
the JAWS Cursor (mouse pointer) down into the results list, guess where I
think the hyperlink is and click it with the left mouse button.
If you've done a text search, the first paragraph or two of the articles
found are displayed. The article is usually preceded by its title.
Positioning the JAWS cursor on the first letter of the title and clicking it
with the left mouse button will retrieve the full article.
If you've done an Index search, clicking the first letter of the topic
usually brings up the related article. Sometimes, there my be more than one
article associated with a particular title. [Ref 1[[Ref 2], etc. will be at
the end of that line. In this case, the Ref 1 or Ref 2 is the hyperlink.
Once the article is displayed, scrolling down is a problem. I arrow the
JAWS or invisible cursor down into the text of the article, then route the
PC cursor to the active cursor. After that, you are able to use the page up
and page down keys to scroll through the article. Use the same procedure to
scroll through the previewed articles in the search results list mentioned
above.
There will also be links to related articles and web links within and at
the end of some articles. As described above, it's a matter of positioning
the JAWS cursor within the text of where you think the link is and clicking
it with the left mouse button.
I haven't yet figured out how to copy an article into Word. Control a
seems to select the text, but control c won't write it to the clipboard.
The articles can be saved to disk (with a .CON extension--whatever that is),
but when I try to retrieve it into word, all the HTML garbage is displayed.
