I've been following the somewhat derisive series of messages concerning
using the mouse with Jaws, and think that this subject should be given more
serious consideration. I wrote one list member privately (and maybe copied
the listserv) on my experience with Quicken 99, where the Jaws mouse
keystrokes don't emulate the actual mouse. I'm wondering if there are
situations in other programs where users can't accomplish a task with the
Jaws mouse keys.

Quicken 99 has a check box on the check register where a sighted user can
click the mouse to show that checks are cleared, then reconcile the account
at a later time. The click of the mouse enters the lettter c into the check
box. After routing cursors back and forth, I could find no way to get
either of the Jaws mouse buttons to perform this function. I have a work
around by typing the letter c into the appropriate check box. However, this
experience refuted my naive assumption that a blind Jaws user could
replicate the mouse with keystrokes. I contacted HJ tech support, but they
couldn't help. Can anyone on this list explain why the Jaws mouse
keystrokes wouldn't perform the same action as my husband's mouse? More
importantly, has anyone had a similar experience with another application?
Based on my experience, I can understand why someone might want to use a
mouse in conjunction with Jaws.
