you can only access the text in an .bmp file by performing O C R.
If you paste, import the the .bmp file into word it will still be a
picture/image and you will still not be able to read it
Someone suggested you should attempt to get the source file from your
teacher.
This is also a good idea but my experience with this has not been a good
one.
You might try getting the people who are doing the scanning to do the O C R
and proofing.
