A friend just purchased a device that hooks on the U S B port which
allowed him to hook a standard rs232 serial device to the U S B. The
interface came with a small piece of software that redirected com1 onto
the U S B. So, applications using com1 have no idea that they are
actually going over a U S B connection to get to the serial port. It is
pretty expensive though. I think he said it was around $80 per port. Of
course, with volume, the price should come down. But, that would allow
youto still use your serial synthesizer in a machine that had only u s b
connections.
