Hi, listers! Happy turkey day! I'm just writing with a few possible
sollutions for some of the problems people are having with the dinging
computer and the demo not speaking properly. As far as the demo goes, I'd
run the instalation program again...this seems to work out a few quirks in
the system, so if that works, you should be fine. Now this is only a hunch,
and I could be way off, but as someone else mentioned, it might have to do
with the display settings. Here's how I've got my system set up. I'm
running Win 95. I mention this first because to change a few things it
might be different in Win 98, which I need to upgrade too! I'm running my
screen rezolution at 1024x768, and my color setting is at true color 32 bit.
This seems to get rid of a lot of problems, especially with Real Player and
Dr. JAWS seems to like it too. Here's how to change your settings in Win
95. go to the start menu. Then hit s for settings and go into the control
pannel multi page dialogue. Tab over to the settings tab and you should see
a combo box of different color settings like 256 colors, and like that..
Arrow down to True Color 32 bit, and press ok to accept the change. Don't
change anything else in there...I learned that the hard way! Took me and my
tech support guy about 2 hours to fix it! Anyways, Windows will then ask
you to restart your system so the new settings will take effect, so just say
yes. Then your system will reboot and then, see what happens. To make sure
you're doing things absolutely right, it might not hurt to have a sighted
person near to make sure everything goes all right...you wouldn't want to
change anything that would shut JFW up for good! Again, this is only a
hunch, so if you've already got the settings I've described above, I don't
know what to say.
