Hi All,
A week ago the Outlook Espress or the m s a a thing glitched big time. I
was using 3.3.1.
this had never happened in any other JAWs version.
Suddenly, JAWs was reading more than one subject line at once. It would
read the current subject line and the one that followed it. the JAWs was
reading numbers on the page that are never never read. This reminded me
of an article a friend had sent me in June regarding problems with m s a a
and another screen reader.
I shut everything down fast and did every scandisk and every utility I
could find.
Now I get a "blank spot" in certain folders when i do the "find" command.
The first line will have a place "missing" which JAWS will not read. But a
sighted person can see that "blank place and recognize the words of the
subject line as being visible.
this blank spot may occur at the beginning of a subject line or in the
middle.
I fear the reoccurence of this problem since the JAWs "going nuts" is
so annoying and so rapid in its reading that it has a mind of its own. If
you experience it, you "will" remember it.
My settings were correct at the time and still are.
I am annoyed because it is going to cost me some expert time and help to
figure out what to do next.
I think there are real problems with the m s a a that JAWs 3.3.1 was
simply not built to handle.
Also I suspect that the promised "patch" from HJ--remember it was coming
in a few weeks as of Friday Oct 22--is not here yet. I suspect that HJ
is working on their next version.
The point is that--although I had problems figuring out a few web sites--I
never had crashes or lock ups. i simply had JAWS "change its behaviour"
for "no apparant reason" which makes me feel that there is some kind of
real, inherent instability somewhere between the m s a a and the JAWS.
On the other JAWs list, several have tried I E 5.01 only to go back for
reasons of various problems that I have not experienced in I E 5.0.
the Tech Suppport people at HJ kept saying to me and to friends that the
JAWs 3.2 was not suppported in I E 5. Well, none of us--as in no one
that i talk to--have had the problems with I E 5 using 3.2 as are
happeningwith 3.31. thus rather than blame JAws, i bet that Microsoft needs
to do more work on the m s a a.
I wish there had been more time before 3.3.1 was released for us
non-Netscape users.
If any one has experienced the "blank spots" in I E 5 that occur from time
to time, please contact me.
And i do hope that none of you "ever" experience the JAWs "going nuts" and
reading symbols that the m s a a and the JAWS normally never reads "on its
own".
I am sure this will happen to some one else. That is why i am posting to
the jfw list at this time.
Any ideas?
have a great day.
