system tray and JAWS

Hi folks,
I was wondering How to keep things permanently out of your system tray.  I
notest that items in the system tray take up ram even though you may not be
using that particular program.  For example, in my system tray I have an
icon for my sound card.  When I closed it; Jaws started to run a hell of a
lot smoother!  Is there any way to take these things out for good.  THANKS!
