I've gotten a couple of strangely bounced messages to I think monash
may be having a glitch. If you will tell me what app you are using, I
can help you better but the normal way of selecting text is to hold
down the shift key while using the arrow heys to highlight/select the
text you want to copy then to hit ctrl+c to copy it to the clip board
or ctrl+x to cut it from the document you are in.

Your second question is a bit tougher but I understand that norton has
a file exclusion capability and that you pick or type in the file(s>
that you wish to exclude from any opperations. I have heard and seen
other problems with norton though so be quite careful when using it
and I hope others will address your norton issue as well.
